Open Systems Management Ltd. ("OSM") is a long standing Independent Software Vendor ("ISV") specializing in the development, marketing and implementation of a complementary suite of security and systems management software products. The software is for distributed systems – in particular those based on the UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

OSM believes that mid to large scale enterprises want systems and operations management software that also tightens security. In this way, improved compliance with security, auditing and legislative requirements can be achieved in parallel with the traditional benefits of systems management software – a quick Return on Investment ("RoI"), implementation of best practice, improved service levels and accountability. Such improvements in security are made less difficult to justify financially and those members of staff working in systems and operations management are rendered accountable.

OSM's software has been licensed by over 1,000 blue-chip end user organizations in 43 countries around the globe and is supported 24x7 from two regional offices in Ascot, UK and Seattle, WA, USA.

OSM works with a number of the industry's major vendors to establish working relationships that will see it fulfill its promise. Our existing technology partners include BMC Software Inc., IBM Corp., Microsoft Corp., and Sun Microsystems Inc. OSM markets its software directly, and through a growing number of international distributors and resellers.

OSM was established in February 1988, is privately held and backed by 3i plc, Europe's leading venture capital company.

Products

The IT departments of most mid to large organizations are expected to keep reducing the cost of IT operations at the same time as improving access security. To assist in meeting this challenge, OSM's software is designed to help IT Operations Management improve efficiency, implement best practice, raise service levels and improve control. In parallel, it benefits security and audit managers by providing improved access security, comprehensive auditing and a major contribution towards legislative compliance.

OSM's software solutions are based on the maxim "Automation-Delegation-Control". The software automates whatever can be automated, and allows for delegation of the remaining tasks in a controlled manner. The end result is a controlled, audited operations management environment.

OSM's software reflects its understanding that operations management is a set of business processes, and that customer-specific policies must be taken into account if automation is to be successful. To that end all OSM software is designed to be intrinsically flexible and extensible, so that the software can be changed to accommodate the user's requirements, rather than the user having to change its processes to accommodate the software.

  • COSbatch – a network-capable job scheduler for heterogeneous networks of UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows systems
  • COSduty-SSA – an IT operations workflow management tool that also provides privileged user management and auditing
  • COSprint – an output management and print spooling product for organizations with a large scale output requirement
  • COSuser – a user provisioning tool that provides one of the basic building blocks for identity management.
